http://www.thearttrain.blogspot.com
The Art Train
Self-directed and Instructional Art
Initially, we will be offering portraiture and clothed figure meetings, with a nude figure drawing session to be added later at another venue. Watch the blog for updates.
- Cost: $8.00 per session. Money collected goes to paying the model, the A/C, rent incurred, and for snacks. Any surplus goes to equipment and a slush fund for less populated nights.
- Time: Every Tuesday night from 6:30 - 9:30 pm. We'll post a holiday schedule sometime in the near future.
- Location: Woodland Presbyterian Church, near the intersection of Gallatin Road, North 11th Street, and Gartland Av. The address of the church is 211 North 11th Street. Here's a link to Google Maps. The entrance is at the rear of the church, upstairs. Follow the signs.
- Bring someone along! Come early… the doors open at about 6:15. Pay and sign-in on entry. Help set up and then claim your spot. The model starts promptly at 6:30 pm. A reminder: take care not to block your neighbor's view. Stay until closing… At 9:30 pm we begin cleaning and packing up. If everyone helps, we can finish by 9:45. Come and go when you like. One fee covers whatever part of the night you attend. Work on whatever you wish. This is a self-instructional group, but there are other educational opportunities available. Feel free to ask either Nick or Pat for details.
Schedule of poses:
- Five two (2) minute poses

- Recording devices such as cameras, cam recorders, or phones are not permitted.
- Quiet talk is permitted but please be respectful of your neighbors.
We will try to provide a diverse pool of models. We will alternate randomly model genders. If you know of any good models, or someone who is interested in modeling, please contact us.
Participants under 18 should provide parental permission.
Help us make figure drawing a satisfying experience. If you have any questions, suggestions, or problems, please contact us,

Call for your Mail Art: Twist Art Gallery
Call for your Mail Art: Love Letter to the Post Office
Recently, our dear Arcade Post Office has been threatened with closing
by the U.S. Postal Service. While we all assume the end of paper mail
is at some point inevitable, we certainly have a nostalgia for actual
handwritten letters and postcards. The Arcade Post Office has been in
the Arcade since the very beginning, opening in 1903. 106 years later
- is it the end of an era? We hope not, but in the meantime, send your
heartfelt Love Letter to the Post Office via Twist Art Gallery, 73 Arcade,
Nashville, TN 37219. Please make it a postcard no larger than 5" x 7"
and postmark by July 24th.
We will hang your postcards in Twist 58 for the August Gallery Crawl.
Postcards will not be returned, but will be sold at the Gallery Crawl for
$5 a piece to support future Twist exhibitions in the Arcade. (It is our
third birthday after all!! And we hope to have many more.) You need
not be an artist to send us a postcard, but we hope it will get your
creative juices flowing.

Call for Works -Belmont Mansion Annual Fashion show
Belmont Mansion hosts an Annual Fashion show each fall and this is our 30th anniversary. We have the longest running fashion show in Nashville! There is always a popular and well-known designer at each show. We have had Carolina Herrera, Gustavo Cadile, Tuleh—just to name a few. This year we are trying to shake things up a bit and thus holding TWO shows. One will be sponsored by Gus Mayer and take place in Belle Meade Country Club and the other will be hosted by Posh and hopefully will be at The Standard Restaurant. We are doing away with the usual silent auction and replacing it with an “open market” type environment. There will be vendors for all over Nashville as well as a few service booths. This year we are trying to help the local Nashville economy as well. We are looking for at least 25 donated works of art ranging in price from $50 to $500. This will be great exposure for any new artist. Their name will be mentioned on our website (which will be newly designed by the time of the show), in the program which will be handed out during both shows, and in the invitation if the works are donated by August 31st. Also, we will offer a FREE membership to those artists who participate and a special reception held at the mansion (date TBD.) We will take 2-D, 3-D and everything from paintings to sculpture to photography.
All proceeds from the show benefit the mission of the mansion which is the continued restoration and preservation of this Nashville landmark.
Please email if you have additional questions.
P.S. This is also a tax deduction.

Freedom Quilting Bee @ Frist July 24, 2009
On Friday, July 24th, from 6 - 8 pm in the Frist Center lobby, meet members of the Freedom Quilting Bee for an informal social hour.
Freedom Quilting Bee members will share the history of their community, their connections to the craft of quilting, and their visions for the future.
The Freedom Quilting Bee is a nationally-recognized quilting cooperative established in 1966 in Alberta, Alabama as an outgrowth of the civil rights movement. When local people lost their incomes, and sometimes their homes, after registering to vote, women banded together to put their skills to use in order to earn family income and build community. Today, the Freedom Quilting Bee remains one of the oldest cooperatives in the country.
The Freedom Quilting Bee and ASK Apparel, a Nashville dyeshop and clothing company focused on revitalizing the use of plant-based dyes, have partnered for a three-day workshop on natural dyeing with plant and earth-based materials. The quilters welcome discussion of projects old and new.
The Frist Center for the Visual Arts is located at 919 Broadway, Nashville, TN. For further information on the Freedom Quilting Bee or ASK Apparel, please contact Sarah Bellos of ASK Apparel at info@askapparel.com, or 615.306.3154, or visit www.askapparel.com.
