Blue Fig Silkscreen & Printmaking classes - March 2011

Blue Fig Editions is now signing up for the March Silkscreen and other Printmaking classes.
You can learn the Art of Silkscreen in this months four session class. March classes are held in the evening on Tuesdays & Thursdays form 6:30 to 9:00.
You will have supplied to you all the supplies needed to create print your own Silkscreen. Just show up with ideas.
This is a hands on class that will teach you step by step procedures and design for printing a 1-4 color silkscreen.

Artists must submit works that reflect, for them, this year’s theme which is:

"SHINE THROUGH WORSHIP - Illuminate, Influence, Inspire."

Deadline to submit entries is Thursday, March 31, 2011

All online applications must be accompanied by a digital photo of each entry.
Each artist may submit up to three (3) entries. There is not a submission charge.

Works will be accepted in the following categories: (Please indicate category on submission.)
Beginners (children Pre-K to 6th grade)
Intermediate (youth 7th to 12th grade)
Advanced (amateur)
Professional (professionally trained or have sold)

Show Date/Times: Friday, April 15, 2011, 4pm to 8pm
Saturday, April 16, 2011, 10am to 2pm

The festival is juried and all art that is accepted and displayed will be, at the choice of the artist, for sale. All transactions will be handled exclusively between the artist and patron. The festival will NOT take a commission on sales.

Sculpture opportunity in MS

Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi, is seeking outdoor sculpture for exhibition on the grounds in front of the Bologna Performing Arts Center. We anticipate selecting eight to ten works. The work will be on exhibition from August 11, 2011 to August 2013, at the end of which time a purchase award will be awarded. The purchase award will remain in the sculpture garden as part of the Sculpture Garden Permanent Collection. Ten other pieces of sculpture have been acquired from the three previous competitions and have been permanently placed at various locations on the Delta State campus. $1,500 honorarium for installation and de-installation.

Registration is open for the 2011 Athens Indie Craftstravaganzaa Spring Market, to be held Saturday, May 7th, 2010 on the corner of Clayton and Pulaski streets - Downtown Athens, Georgia. Hours are 10am until 7pm. daylight savings time.

Booth fee for this Market will be $75. Booth size is 10x10, tents are allowed but all set up and displays must fit within the 10x10 area.

Deadline for applications is April 1st, 2011 and notifications will go out by April 7th.

Sharing a booth is acceptable as long as we receive all the info on the application (including pictures) for each person sharing the booth. Be sure and note on your registration form that you intend to share a booth. Please no more than three persons per booth.

Manuel Cuevas & Jeff Schmuki Free Lectures at Shakerag

Each week the "Shakerag Lecture Series" sponsors a presentation by a
special visiting artist. These public Wednesday evening lectures are
held at 7:30 in the James Agee Memorial Library on the campus of St.
Andrew's-Sewanee School. Each lecture is followed by a reception in
the St. Andrew's-Sewanee Gallery honoring the Shakerag Lecturer and
the Shakerag faculty artists.

This year's Shakerag lecturers are Manuel Cuevas and Jeff Schmuki.

Manuel Cuevas will be our Shakerag lecturer on June 15, 2011. Manuel
is a costumer and an artist who has designed clothing for presidents,
athletes, dancers, artists, and movie stars. Often referred to as the
"Rhinestone Rembrandt," Manuel says "I do for artists what they need -

Jeff Schmuki. will be our Shakerag lecturer on June 22, 2011. Jeff
received his M.F.A. from Alfred University and now lives and works in
New Orleans. In response to the devastation caused by Hurricane
Katrina, Jeff now specializes in using found objects and off-grid/

March Art Party is the first of four juried shows to be presented this year by Artists In Nashville at Classic Modern on 8th Ave. South. The event runs from 5 - 9 p.m. on Saturday, March 19th.

Entry Fee: $35 (if accepted)

Open to visual artists working in the mediums of Oil, Acrylic, Watercolor, Sketch, Encaustic, Metal, Fiber, Paper, Wood, Glass. Limit of two jewelry artists.

Women's Work 2011 call for submissions. For three weekends in May, our fifth annual Women’s Work festival will showcase the talents of creative women at Nashville’s Z. Alexander Looby Theatre. In past years, Women's Work has drawn women playwrights, poets, musicians, essayists, painters, filmmakers, dancers and photographers from across Tennessee and across the country. We're interested in staged readings, reader’s theater presentations; performance pieces by women; films and documentaries by women; poetry readings; singer/songwriters, choreography/dance; stand-up comics; visual art – you name it, we’ll consider it.

The deadline for submissions is March 25, 2011. Please visit our website for submission guidelines, and to download a submission form. There’s a small submission fee of $20.00, to help offset our costs (advertising, space, printing, etc.).

Artists are invited to donate 8” x 10” works-on-paper. We are interested in drawings, sketches, paintings, photographs, prints, and mixed media.

This is the first annual national exhibition and sale to benefit the Middle Tennessee State University, Department of Art Scholarship Program. The mission of the program is to generate support for undergraduate students studying art.

Call for Poster Designers - Inglewood Cherry Blossom Festival

The Inglewood Neighborhood Association, Inc. (I NA) will hold the Inglewood Cherry Blossom festival this Spring on April 16, 2011, from 11 Am till 5pm. This is a fund raiser to landscape, restore and the continued planting of Yoshino Cherry Trees on Riverside Dr. in Nashville.

We wanted to offer local artist the opportunity to design our logo and poster for this event. The theme is focused on the symbolism of the Cherry Blossom in Japanese culture, the herald of Spring, new life and the transience of life.

The art work will be judged by our committee, and the winner will have a free booth (10 x 10) to display their art.

Their art will be the official poster for this year's event, and will be on our website, advertising and promos.
