Open to MFA and BFA candidates with a focus in printmaking at institutions in the greater mid-Atlantic.

fEASTival Nashville is a celebration of independent culture in East Nashville. We look for the exciting, interesting and maybe even a little offbeat, after all those are the very things that make East Nashville what it is today!

East Nashville has emerged to become a viable, growing part of the city of Nashville in the past ten years. The landscape, businesses and the people have created a growing community of music, arts and individuals who support and sustain their local community.

The Community Education Program at Watkins sets the stage for people of all ages to learn the process of creating art in a variety of fascinating media. Classes, taught by talented practicing artists, help students gain an understanding of their chosen medium. Emphasis is placed on both the finished product and the process of thinking, designing, communicating and creating.
  Youth are introduced to art fundamentals through drawing, painting, working with clay and other techniques. Teens learn about past and present artists while expanding upon their artistic skills. Youth and teens programs include Saturday Classes in the fall and spring semesters. In the summer students can join our Summer of the Arts program which is offered 4 different weeks throughout the summer months. In addition, for teens we offer weekly After School Classes as well as the Pre-College Program, a three-week summer program for highly motivated high school students to experience the life and culture of art college.

Adults have the opportunity to explore areas of specific interest, allowing their creative voice to finally be heard. Classes and workshops are offered during the fall, spring and summer semesters.

Bring Donation for Second Harvest Food Bank -- Receive FREE Admission on Mondays

In what has become a holiday tradition at the Frist Center, visitors bringing non-perishable food items to the Frist Center on Mondays in November and December receive free admission to the Frist Center’s galleries. The items most needed by Second Harvest are peanut butter, canned meat, canned vegetables, canned fruit, pasta and cereal.
Organized in 1978, Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee is a private, not-for-profit, tax-exempt organization.  Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee’s mission is to feed hungry people and work to solve hunger issues in our community. Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee is one of the largest and most comprehensive of over 200 food banks and food distribution centers nationwide and also a member of Feeding America - The Nation’s Food Bank Network.  Second Harvest distributes food and other products to approximately 400 nonprofit partner agencies in 46 counties in Middle and West Tennessee. Our partners include food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, childcare facilities, senior centers, group homes, and youth enrichment programs. Thursday and Friday evenings from November 1 through December 30, visitors are invited to create masks in the Grand Lobby using various materials and inspiration from To Live Forever: Egyptian Treasures from the Brooklyn Museum, an exhibition of 119 objects that demonstrate the ancient Egyptian belief system regarding preparation for the life after death on view in the Ingram Gallery through January 8, 2012.
Through mask making, guests can imitate the opulence sought by ancient Egyptians of all economic classes to ensure a better place in the afterlife. This art-making activity in the Grand Lobby is free and open to all visitors.

Adult Studio Workshop: Exploring Encaustic Painting
Guest artist: Stephanie Gerber-Darr

From Egyptian mummy portraits to collages by Jasper Johns, artists across time have used the luscious and adaptable medium of encaustic in a variety of ways. Encaustic paintings use the ancient technique of combining melted beeswax, resin, and pigments to create a surface that can be built up to make translucent and textured layers.  During this workshop participants will have the rare opportunity to view an encaustic mummy portrait in the exhibition To Live Forever: Egyptian Treasures from the Brooklyn Museum, and then have fun using a simplified version of the medium themselves. 
Location: Frist Center Studios
 $50 members/$75 non-members.  Cost includes all supplies and gallery admission.

The Art Enterprise Diploma (AED), an exciting collaboration between the London School of Business and Finance (LSBF), the London College of Contemporary Arts (LCCA) and the unique distance learning platform, InterActive, will equip students with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to enter the world of the arts and culture industries.
AED is suitable for students, artists and creative industry professionals across the globe, who seek the necessary business awareness that will allow their immediate access to a competitive international market.
Students who will attend the Art Enterprise Diploma will have the chance to explore a wide range of topics related to the identification of their own unique selling points, initiating collaboration, digital rights management, online digital distribution, and aspects of law which regularly affect artists, such as contract non-payment and copyright. The list of courses includes: Entrepreneurship, Technology & Media, Marketing, Events Management & Law, Communication Skills, and Personal Finance & Tax.
A proportion of the fees for this diploma will be donated to the Musicians Benevolent Fund, a unique charity which provides essential help to music professionals of all ages across a range of genres.

Centennial Art Center's visual arts classes - Registration open until Dec 15, 2011

Registration begins for Centennial Art Center's visual arts classes on Monday, December 5, between 8 AM and 8 PM, .

Registration will continue through Thursday, December 15.

Then, starting on Friday, December 16, the Art Center will be closed for the Holiday Season, and will remain closed through Monday, January 2.

Classes begin on Tuesday, January 3, and class registration will resume at that time (for classes that still have openings).
