What is Sketchys you ask?
Dr. Sketchy's is what happens when cabaret meets art school. Dr. Sketchy's is the little Brooklyn event that became a movement. Founded in 2005 by artist Molly Crabapple, Dr. Sketchy's asked a simple question. Why can't drawing half naked people be sexy?
(** please note** this months session will be on the FOURTH Sunday of March, not the usual third)
Each Month we will have gorgeous women, musclemen, sideshow freaks and geeks. Then we let you draw them for three hours! Grab a seat $10, Grab a drink, Listen to some tunes and Draw Draw Draw!!!
Mixed in with all that will be ridiculous drawing contests where you can win alcohol and fancy prizes from local retailers.
From it's humble Brooklyn beginnings, Dr. Sketchy's now has over 100 branches around the globe, including Hollywood, London, Tokyo, Rome, Melbourne and Nashville.

The point is this isn't your typical life drawing class. Christmas time is here! and the Jolly Ol' Dr Sketchy was making a list, checking it twice and deciding who has been naughty and nice. When he got to the name of burlesque beauty Diletta Delight he knew she was the naughtiest of them all!
This month Dr Sketchys Anti Art School Nashville presents Diletta Delight as she poses using Shibari.
Shibari is the beauty of tight bondage. It is a Japanese artistic style of sexual bondage. The tying of rope into intricate patterns and asymmetrical positions makes the model the canvas and the rope being the paint and brush.

Self-directed and Instructional Art
Initially, we will be offering portraiture and clothed figure meetings, with a nude figure drawing session to be added later at another venue. Watch the blog for updates.
- Cost: $8.00 per session. Money collected goes to paying the model, the A/C, rent incurred, and for snacks. Any surplus goes to equipment and a slush fund for less populated nights.
- Time: Every Tuesday night from 6:30 - 9:30 pm. We'll post a holiday schedule sometime in the near future.
- Location: Woodland Presbyterian Church, near the intersection of Gallatin Road, North 11th Street, and Gartland Av. The address of the church is 211 North 11th Street. Here's a link to Google Maps. The entrance is at the rear of the church, upstairs. Follow the signs.
- Bring someone along! Come early… the doors open at about 6:15. Pay and sign-in on entry. Help set up and then claim your spot. The model starts promptly at 6:30 pm. A reminder: take care not to block your neighbor's view. Stay until closing… At 9:30 pm we begin cleaning and packing up. If everyone helps, we can finish by 9:45. Come and go when you like. One fee covers whatever part of the night you attend. Work on whatever you wish. This is a self-instructional group, but there are other educational opportunities available. Feel free to ask either Nick or Pat for details.
Schedule of poses:
- Five two (2) minute poses
- Two five (5) minute poses
- One ten (10) minute pose
- One twenty (20) minute pose
20 minute break for model (@ 7:30)
- One thirty (30) minute pose
- One sixty (60) minute pose
- Break time is 7:30-ish. We have roughly 20 minutes for announcements and socializing. Snacks usually consist of soda and juice, veggies, cookies, bread, chips and dip, or some combination thereof.
- We strive to be chemical free. Please use fixatives outside of the building. Please keep smelly or noxious materials at home, including perfumes, oils and markers.
- Recording devices such as cameras, cam recorders, or phones are not permitted.
- Quiet talk is permitted but please be respectful of your neighbors.
We will try to provide a diverse pool of models. We will alternate randomly model genders. If you know of any good models, or someone who is interested in modeling, please contact us.
Participants under 18 should provide parental permission.

Dr Sketchy’s Anti Art School Nashville is bringing a piece of the Windy City right here to Music City! And what a piece it is…. Red Hot Annie’s burlesque career began quite by accident. Originally a modest hot dog vendor, she peddled Annie’s Red Hots up and down the streets of Chicago. Annie prided herself on the quality of her hot dogs, taking care not to rush an order. To offset the inevitable waiting and to keep her customers happy, Annie performed little dances for them while the food cooked. Sadly, though, as the big chain restaurants moved in and as people began to forsake quality for faster and faster service, Annie was forced to pack up her hot dog cart for good. However, in a textbook case of making lemonade out of lemons, she realized that she could put her dancing skills to use in the world of burlesque. So, even though the hot dog cart is gone, Red Hot Annie still knows how to make the wieners boil! Come catch Red Hot Annie as she poses for your artistic enjoyment on Sat. When many artists think "life drawing," they think of sterile rooms, bad lighting, and bored, silent, models with nary a hint of personality. Dr. Sketchy's Anti Art School is here to change all that. This month Dr Sketchy's Nashville will be "Animated In April" !!
That's right, this is an Anime themed sketching session in anticipation of The Middle Tennessee Anime Convention coming to Nashville later this month! Our model will be MTAC's very own beautiful and animated mascot "Con Kitty" posing for your artistic enjoyment!
You will have the chance to participate in contests such as best use of your favorite childhood cartoon character or most colorful Kimono drawn on the model and more!
We will be awarding prizes such as passes to MTAC, Goon Comics and Gift Certificates from I Dream of Weenie and The Groove.

How is Dr. Sketchy's different from a normal life drawing class?
In normal life classes, silent students sit in a silent room and draw a bored, oft-uninteresting model. In Dr. Sketchy's we've got bodacious burlesque queens as models. We've got ridiculous art contests (best incorporation of a woodland animal? Best imagined costume?), good music and flashy prizes. We've got a selection of posh beverages alcoholic and not available to buy. At Dr. Sketchy's, we don't care if you picked up a pad yesterday or 50 years ago. Come to drink or to draw. We're happy to have you.
What mediums can I use?
All dry mediums are okay, as are dip pens and neat watercolor sets.
Oil paints, messy mediums and stinky mediums are not okay. Please don't cause a mess - you will be spanked!
Are there easels? Tables? Sketchpads?
The 5 Spot has table seating. All seating is available first come, first serve. We try to bring sketchpads and pencils for drop-ins, but no guarantees. We do not provide easels but you may bring your own although we suggest arriving early to pick your spot to set up.
