The Big Stitch - April 18, 2009
"The Big Stitch" is for knitting and crochet crafters. It is an event to help support The Meharry Project. This is a charitable organization whose goal is to provide a new handmade blanket and hat to each of the approximately 2500 babies born at the Nashville General Hospital each year.
We will gather at FiftyForward Knowles - 174 Rains Avenue - Nashville. This is located near the TN State Fairgrounds. The event is April 18th, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. Bring a sack lunch. You will meet other knitting and crochet folks, exchange information, patterns, ideas, etc. Instructions and patterns are also available at minimal costs.
Last meeting saw at least 100 blanket sets turned in, this one we hope to gather even more. They do ask that these blankets are kept smoke free.
Reservations recommended. Anyone who would like more information should contact Deborah Stillwell at info@knitandcrochettn.com or by calling 615-579-1875.

Call to artists: The Artistry of Hope Show: Deadline: April 1 2009
The Artistry of Hope Show
A Call to Artists....
Come join us in celebrating the 10th anniversary of "Danita's Children". For the past 10 years Danita Estrella has devoted her life to taking care of orphaned children in
The "Artistry of Hope" will draw in hundreds of donors, celebrities, and people that just want to make a difference. We hope that you will be compelled to create works of art that inspire others to help make the world a better place for the children of
Here is how it works: To be selected as an artist for the show, you must submit 3 examples of your CURRENT work to info@davisartadvisory.com for jurying. These pieces do NOT have to be hope inspired, just work that represents what you are currently doing. We accept small file digital photos through email or a website link. (Work is selected on the opinion that it works well with the other artists and the theme of the night as a whole.)
If you are selected to be in the show:
Each artist can submit up to three pieces of artwork for the show, but there is no guarantee that we can hang all three pieces. Please be prepared to take home any remaining work and/or your packaging, etc. All work needs to be hang-able upon delivery. Because this is a fund raiser event, a percentage of the sale will go to the children. We want this event to be a win for everyone, so we are giving the artists the option to donate 50%, 75%, or 100% of their sale, which goes directly to the children in

Call for artists: Call for Artists: Urban Housing Solutions "Art Works for Change": art due Nov 20

We invite artists to submit work for our 2nd annual Art Works for Change student art competition and silent auction.
Art Works for Change is the culmination of a local student art competition, where prizes are awarded, students are honored, and their work is auctioned to benefit the residents of Urban Housing Solutions.
Alongside student artwork, established community artists submit their work for auction. This not only serves to make the event a greater success, but also brings together a community of artists old and young, established and new, for a good cause.
Urban Housing Solutions is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, providing affordable housing and comprehensive services in Nashville for over 1,000 individuals per year. We serve not only low-income families, but also disabled Nashvillians such as those struggling with mental illness, AIDS/HIV, domestic violence survival, recovery from drugs/alcohol, and chronic homelessness.
We expect 250-300 guests at this year's event including local philanthropists, artists, parents, art buyers, and business professionals. Artists who donate their work will have the chance to exhibit their pieces and biographical information to these guests while helping move Nashville from poverty to possibility!
All donations are tax deductible, and we can arrange for a pick-up.
All proceeds go directly to resident programming.
Thank you very much for your consideration. Please feel free to contact me at any time. We hope to have all art in hand by November 20th.
Please contact georgia.copeland@gmail.com if you are interested.

Call for artists - Opportunity to donate work for Cumberland Heights
Opportunity for visibility through donated artwork for Cumberland Heights – an alcohol and chemical dependency treatment center in Davidson County.
I work in Development at Cumberland
Heights and we just put a new coat of paint on the walls in our
original administration building after many years. In that process most
of the junk was taken off the walls, and it looks so nice we are now
thinking we need to put up something worthwhile for the enjoyment of our
patients and their families.
I was hoping you might consider as a local artist donating a piece for this very visible place.
(Even if you pass along this email to your list - that would be a big help.) Thousands
of people are in and out of that building for therapy and meals over a
years period of time and it would be a good spot for an artist to
highlight their work. Because of the nature of our facility, we have to
be somewhat limiting in subject matter as our goal is to promote holistic
healing. Therefore, we may not be in a position to accept any piece.
There are two walls which face each other. They are each 15 feet long and
from the chair rail the ceiling is 6 feet high. Lots of space for the
right pieces.
If you are willing, I would be most appreciative. The donated pieces
would be highlighted in our quarterly newsletter which is mailed to
20,000+ households across the nation. If any interested artist wants to
see the space, I would be willing to arrange a time for a visit or send photos of the space.
See contact information below.
Thank you for your support in this project.
Please visit www.cumberlandheights.org for more information about our organization.
