Dr Sketchy's Nashville
Saturday 12-8-07
3-6 pm
The 5 Spot
$10
This months theme is:
Walking in a Weenie Wonderland
Our Model for December is : The owner of East Nashville's I Dream of Weenie & Burlesque Superstar - Monique Honeybush.
How is Dr. Sketchy's different from a normal life drawing class?
In normal life classes, silent students sit in a silent room and draw a bored, oft-uninteresting model. In Dr. Sketchy's we've got bodacious burlesque queens as models. We've got ridiculous art contests (best incorporation of a woodland animal? Best imagined costume?), good music and flashy prizes. We've got a selection of posh beverages alcoholic and not available to buy. At Dr. Sketchy's, we don't care if you picked up a pad yesterday or 50 years ago. Come to drink or to draw. We're happy to have you.
What mediums can I use?
All dry mediums are okay, as are dip pens and neat watercolor sets. Oil paints, messy mediums and stinky mediums are not okay. Sharpen your pencils over the garbage can. Please don't cause a mess - you will be spanked!
Are there easels? Tables? Sketchpads?
The 5 Spot has table seating. All seating is available first come, first serve. We try to bring sketchpads and pencils for drop-ins, but no guarantees. We don't supply easels.
The point is that this isn't your typical life drawing class. Here, the drawing sessions are about opening your mind, pushing the envelope, encompassing the model's personality and uniqueness, funny contests, and having a fun time. Dr Sketchy's is open for all skill levels! Bring you pad, bring your pencil.. let's draw!!!!

ASK Apparel - help & learn natural dyeing process (this week)
We here at ASK Apparel world headquarters are working on a big order of naturally-dyed shirts for the new Whole Foods in Green Hills (check out the write up in the Nashville Scene Food Blog - http://www.nashvillescene.com/blog/bites/archives/00000146.shtml).
Is anyone interested in helping out with making the shirts, and learning a bit about natural dyeing in the process?
The particular process we'll be doing (a Japanese technique called
katazome) is a lot like color-by-numbers, but organic, and with the ever-endearing witticisms of Sarah Bellos. You will earn our eternal gratitude and a free shirt (or re-dyed item of your choice).
We are looking for people to help over the next week, so please contact me directly by email (ali@askapparel.com) if you are interested.
