BEEHIVE DESIGN COLLECTIVE - JUNE 16, 2009 - the true cost of coal

where art and the environment in(ter)sect.

The Beehive Design Collective -a group of artist activists based in Maine- travels the U.S. and abroad engaging communities in a dialogue about pressing socio-politico-environmental issues of the day through their intricate large-scale graphic works and accompanying presentations (aka narrative picture-lectures). All research for the murals is done first-hand, which means months or more spent in an area, collaborating with communities, listening to their stories and interpreting them visually. If you're interested in community action, social change, environmental justice, or just really cool art, we'll see you there! And in the meantime, help us spread the word far and wide!

"Your light switch is connected to a human and ecological drama playing out in the Appalachians and beyond. The Beehive Design Collective presents "The True Cost of Coal," a giant poster-in-progress with an all-animal cast! The Beehive is an all-volunteer, art-activist collective dedicated to "cross-pollinating the grassroots" by creating collaborative, anti-copyright images for use as educational and organizing tools."
