New Artist Opportunities for Photographers - Open to Interpretation

New Artist Opportunities for Photographers

Open to Interpretation - Water's Edge
Water's ever changing surface and symbolism has held our imagination since ancient times. Images that capture water's transition are as prolific as water itself; they can be found everywhere. We are drawn to water for a myriad of different reasons - all subjects (color or black & white) are eligible.

Deadline June 7: $35 for 5 images, $10 each additional

Open to Interpretation - Intimate Landscape
Landscapes conjure images of vast, sweeping scenes, but the details captured by a photograph can turn a seemingly impersonal setting into an intimate story. It's up to the artist to define what constitutes and intimate landscape, be it representational, non-representational, urban, suburban, or rural.

Submit by August 23: $30 for 5 images, $10 each additional
Deadline October 18: $35 for 5 images, $10 each additional
Awards: $300 Juror's choice
Juror: Karen Irvine, Curator Museum of Contemporary Photography

New Artist's Residency Grant
Vision Quest Photo Workshops announces a new yearly grant of a one-week photographic artists's residency. For mid-career fine-art photographers looking for a retreat-like experience to work on their art, reflect on their artistic direction, make new photographs, plan new career paths, or to simply have time away from work/family/life pressure and stress. Photographers can use this time to move their art or career forward or to reflect on where they are and where they are headed. For more details go to VQPhoto.com

Open to Interpretation is a juried book competition of photography, poetry, fiction and creative non-fiction. Each book begins with a themed call for photos. The chosen images become the literary inspiration for the writers' submissions. A book is created that matches each winning photo with two stories or poems that offer different interpretations of the image. The unique collaboration adds new dimensions to both the photos and the written word.
