'The Importance of Art Within Healthcare Settings'

Donna Glassford resides in Nashville and is the proprietor of Donna Glassford Arts in Health, a consultancy. Her past experience includes serving as the Executive Director of Cultural Enrichment at Vanderbilt University Medical Center for 14 years. She is a board member for the Society for Arts in Healthcare a national organization and serves on the board of Nashville Civic Design Center. Not only a collector of art, Donna assists in the  purchase of major at pieces for prominent medical facilities and private collections. She has lectured on the topic of art and health internationally. Her experience as painter and  printmaker led her to this unique field.      


 Ms. Glassford will be speaking on how the arts play an important role in making environments feel more comfortable for patients and their loved ones. She will discuss how the arts can assist in healing during stressful times. Donna will share stories, opportunities and give examples of how the healing arts have influenced individual patients and the community at large. Examples will be drawn from the genesis of major sculpture commissions inspired by hope to therapeutic endeavors shown as temporary art exhibitions.  She will also field question from the audience on how their art might apply to the healing environments.

Grab your lunch and join the Arts Council for a lunchtime of artistic fun and camaraderie. Guests are invited to bring a piece of their own artwork to share with the group.
