The City of Jackson and Union University are accepting submissions from sculptors to participate in the City of Jackson/Union University Outdoor Sculpture Competition 2008-2009. Five works will be selected for a one-year exhibition in the City of Jackson. One of the five sculptures will be presented with a purchase award for the permanent tour. Stan Townsend will present "Molding and Casting with Modern Materials," during which participants will learn all of the steps to make a one-part and two-part mold, as well as a mother mold and other castings. Ron Young will present "Patinas and Metal Finishes," during which participants will learn how to achieve beautiful patinas on all types of metals. This class focuses on sculpting, but students are welcome to paint or draw. A model changes poses every other week. Alan will provide clay for sculptors and even fire pieces for students free of charge. Those wishing to paint or draw should bring their own supplies. Call (615) 298-4611.
