Metro Arts Invites Area Artists To Submit Designs For Public Art Bike Racks

Nashville, TN

Any professional artist who lives within 200 miles of Nashville can submit up to three designs for artistic bicycle racks inspired by Nashville's history, culture or natural features. Approximately five different designs will be selected for fabrication and each winning design will earn the artist $2500 to cover the artist's design, project-related travel and other necessary out-of-pocket expenses, along with consultation throughout fabrication and installation. Designs for new bicycle racks will be chosen on the basis of artistic merit, functionality, and durability. Five locations were chosen around downtown for the art, including Church Street and Capitol Blvd across from the Nashville Public Library, Farmers' Market East and West entrances, the Northeast corner of Demonbreun Street and Buddy Killen Circle, the Fulton Complex (formerly Howard School) on 2nd Avenue, and Commerce Street between 4th and 5th Avenues.

Once designs are selected, a fabricator will be commissioned to build selected designs in consultation with selected artists and project partners. Artists may submit and be selected for both the design and fabrication stages.

CSM-Nashville Fundraiser seeking artists Jan 17 2009

We would love for you to be a part of a fundraiser event we are having this Saturday, January 17th! The Center for Student Missions (CSM-Nashville; www.csm.org) is dedicated to providing urban ministry experiences and supporting the local non-profits/ ministries in our city. We have to fundraise a percentage of our budget, and desire for our fundraiser to not only support our work, but also bring awareness to the amazing things going on in Nashville.
The event is called "heART for the City" and is open to anyone who loves the city of Nashville and wants to support its local artists and ministries. This is where you come in.
Along with having information about local non-profits and havning 6 singer/songwriters performing, we want to designate an area for some of the local artists to display and perhaps sell their work.
This is our first year, and space is available BUT if you are interested in what CSM stands for, and would love to be a part of the evening, please contact us. We will need to view a few of your pieces, so if you could include that in your email, we'd greatly appreciate it!

Ruby Green artist studios

Ruby Green is dividing it's gallery space into four studios for 250 each. The only requirement would be that on the first saturday of each month the studios must be open from 6-9pm. Ruby Green will advertise and have as our website the artist's bio and info explaining the program. Ruby Green will not take any commission from any work sold. The 250 per month is all that is required. This program would last until the end of August 2009. At that time, the back space would become a studio for one or two artists. We were thinking you might know some artists who would like to work together or might be interested yourself.

NASHVILLE, TN—The Arts & Business Council (ABC) of Greater Nashville, in partnership with the

Sommet Group, announces a Call to Artists seeking submissions from Greater Nashville artists

(current, past or native middle Tennessee residents) interested in creating a new work of art to be the focus of a community wide event promoting greater Nashville’s creative community, and linking the business and the Arts communities. The final piece should be distinctly Nashville, embody the creative spirit of the city, and demonstrate the vibrancy of Arts in the Greater Nashville Community. The culminating event is planned for late January, 2009.

Attached is an application form along with the guidelines. The deadline for interested artists to submit their qualifications for consideration is Monday, November 17, 2008.

Estel Gallery is currently accepting submissions for its Nov/Dec 2008 exhibition Branch Out featuring fine art sculptural ornaments.

The show runs Nov. 22 - Dec. 20, 2008.

The reception will be Dec. 6, 2008.

The deadline for submissions is Sept 20, 2008.

Branch Out features the ultimate presentation of handmade ornaments, Christmas trees and menorahs - not just another decoration mass produced and "Made in China." Artists explore what it means to create something designed to be given to another individual as an expression of celebration and contemplation. This exhibit is not a craft fair, but fine craft may be considered. We are not looking for the same old same. Submissions will be judged on the basis of creativity, craftsmanship and wow factor.

Eligibility: Open to any artist over the age of 18.

Acceptable Media: Three-dimensional fine art. No limitation on media other than it must be durable and able to withstand the tests of time and storage.

If ornaments are made, they must be light enough to be supported by a Christmas tree branch without bending it, roughly 1 lb or less. Heavier ornaments will require the artist to suggest an alternative hanging system. If creating a tree, it must be able to be disassembled for convenient storage. Menorah's should be created for standard size candles, and the first set of candles should be included.

Each selected artist will be assigned an authentic aluminum Christmas tree, pedestal or space to showcase his/her creations of the season.

Aluminum Christmas trees range in size from 1 foot - 6 feet. You will be assigned a tree based upon the number of ornaments you can create for the show. Please note if you have a tree size preference. We do have a limited number of colored aluminum Christmas trees - blue/green, green/silver. You will be notified if you are assigned a tree that is not silver.

Fee: No fee

Participation: Emailed submissions and/websites sent for consideration WILL NOT be considered. Please do not bring samples of your work into the gallery for consideration. You may send images using the following guidelines:

1. No more than five (5) quality (300 dpi in RGB format) images of work. Please present at least two different views of each piece submitted (total images including multiple angles should not exceed 15 images). Each image must be properly labeled with: Artist Name, Title, Medium, Dimensions and Gallery Retail Price. (Gallery commission is 50%.) Please do not include images of sold work. All work for the show must be for sale. Please provide a best estimate of how many ornaments you will be able to create by the time of shipment.

2. A current resume limited to no more than two pages and include: Exhibitions divided between one-person and group as well as Gallery representation of both current and past relationships. Please provide this on the CD with your images.

3. A brief Artist's Statement about your work or any comments you feel necessary to fully appreciate your work. (Please limit to no more than one page. The statement should be clear, concise and not hand-written.) Please provide this on the CD with your images.

4. Submissions will not be returned.

Originally a modest hot dog vendor, she peddled Annie’s Red Hots up and down the streets of Chicago. Annie prided herself on the quality of her hot dogs, taking care not to rush an order. To offset the inevitable waiting and to keep her customers happy, Annie performed little dances for them while the food cooked. Sadly, though, as the big chain restaurants moved in and as people began to forsake quality for faster and faster service, Annie was forced to pack up her hot dog cart for good. However, in a textbook case of making lemonade out of lemons, she realized that she could put her dancing skills to use in the world of burlesque. Booth sizes are 10' X 10'. All crafters must bring their own tables,
chairs and tent (if desired). Set up will be Saturday, September 20
from 8:00 am to 10:00 am. If electricity is required, notice must be

Standard booth space for the day is $25.00. Booth with electrical
hook-up is $35.00.
Payment will be made prior to set-up on September 20.

Cancellation may be made without penalty for any payment received

How is Dr. Sketchy's different from a normal life drawing class?

In normal life classes, silent students sit in a silent room and draw a bored, oft-uninteresting model. In Dr. Sketchy's we've got bodacious burlesque queens as models. We've got ridiculous art contests (best incorporation of a woodland animal? Best imagined costume?), good music and flashy prizes. We've got a selection of posh beverages alcoholic and not available to buy. At Dr. Sketchy's, we don't care if you picked up a pad yesterday or 50 years ago. Come to drink or to draw. We're happy to have you.

What mediums can I use?

All dry mediums are okay, as are dip pens and neat watercolor sets.
Oil paints, messy mediums and stinky mediums are not okay. Please don't cause a mess - you will be spanked!

Are there easels? Tables? Sketchpads?

The 5 Spot has table seating. All seating is available first come, first serve. We try to bring sketchpads and pencils for drop-ins, but no guarantees. We do not provide easels but you may bring your own although we suggest arriving early to pick your spot to set up.

Call to artists: submissions welcome through January 14 for Works with Words show

Nashville Public Library is pleased to invite artists living in Tennessee to submit artworks created between 2003 and 2008 to be considered for an exhibition titled "Works with Words." Deadline for submissions is January 14, 2008. The juried exhibition, March 15 - June 22, 2008, will be located in the first floor Art Gallery at the Main Library, and carries with it a $1000 purchase award for one piece to be selected by the library for its permanent collection.

The narrative tradition is part and parcel of Tennessee culture - from legendary tales to allegorical sermons to the lament of the blues, this is storytelling country. "Works with Words" invites Tennessee artists to tell their story through text and images. Artworks featured in this exhibition will represent a broad range of ways that text can be used in works of art. The Library Art Gallery is open to library users of all ages, so the subject matter should be appropriate for the general public. Work will be juried for artistic merit, creativity, original concept, and integration of text and image. Nashville Public Library reserves the right not to exhibit any work not consistent with the images provided for jury.

Project Budgets:

Ticketing Lobby Artwork - $250,000

Security Checkpoint Glass Wall - $125,000

The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority and Arts at the Airport seek artists for two large-scale public art projects at Nashville International Airport. The two projects are open to professional visual artists in the United States.
