FAIR USE FOR ARTISTS
With the recent dispute over Shepard Fairey's use of an AP photograph as a reference for his Obama poster, fair use has been discussed in the news quite a bit lately. The concept of "fair use" generally refers to the use of copyrighted material without the author's permission for a limited and "transformative" purpose such as commentary, criticism or parody. During this seminar, we will attempt to bring clarity to this often murky and confusing area of copyright law, including looking at guidelines for artists when determining whether their proposed use of a copyrighted work might be a "fair use" or not.

Negotiation is an important skill, both professionally and personally. In our first program on negotiation, we introduced "hard bargaining" and focused on such topics as bargaining ranges, opening offers/demands, and concession making. In this second program on negotiation, we will introduce "smart bargaining" and focus on such topics as interests, option generation, and objective standards. This program will be interactive.
Taught by Chris Guthrie, Professor of Law, from Vanderbilt University Law School. The program is FREE and open to the public. To attend, you must RSVP to info@tnvla.org by Mon., Feb. 9th. Priority will be given to people who attended the first negotiation seminar in October.

The title says it all! Neil McBride will discuss issues faced by lawyers who advise nonprofit organizations. Neil has nearly 30 years of experience advising nonprofit organizations as the Director of Rural Legal Services of Tennessee and in his current role as General Counsel to the Legal Aid Society. He also teaches a clinical seminar on representing nonprofit corporations at the University of Tennessee College of Law. TNVLA is delighted that he has agreed to share his considerable knowledge with us.
