Do you want to see Plate Tone Printshop?
On Sunday, May 11, we are hosting a Tour of the Printshop. This will be an informal thing where people can drop by and look at the shop, and learn more about what we offer. The Printshop is a membership organization usually closed to the public, so this is a good chance to see the presses and our workspace. It's not an art show type open house, just a tour of the shop. We'll be there from 1-4, you can come by at your convenience.

We are a printmaking studio with current membership openings. Basic knowledge of printmaking is required in the context of a fine art practice. Members of the Printshop create work including but not limited to etching, monoprint, monotype, polyester plate lithography, relief processes and marbling. Through hands-on workshops, demonstrations and group exhibitions, members increase their knowledge of printmaking and connect to other working artists. Our goal is to foster a vibrant, local printmaking community.
The Printshop provides the opportunity for artists to have 24-hour access to specialized equipment. Our facilities include two etching presses, a large inking table, a low toxic etching bath (Ferric Chloride as opposed to Nitric Acid), a Solarplate exposure unit, a
large paper soaking sink, and more. We use exclusively non-toxic and
low toxic printmaking materials.

The studio is conveniently located right off of I-40 in a storefront space on Charlotte near the Italian Market and Southern Thrift, in the hip Sylvan Park district.
Look for the the gold dome roof Amsouth bank. We are next to Zigns sign store, with the orange plaid curtain. There is a parking lot behind the building.

Estel Gallery is currently accepting submissions for its August 2008 exhibition of drawings August 1 - 30, 2008, opening reception August 2, 2008. The deadline for submissions is May 31, 2008.
Most artists can trace their initial interest in art to the drawings they first made as children. Yet as an art form, drawing has become less appreciated with the increase in variety of art media available and the notion of what is considered art. This summer Estel Gallery dedicates its walls to artists who have continued to refine their skills and creativity through the art of drawing, pushing it to new levels.

The International Black Film Festival (IBFF) of Nashville announces its dynamic four day event highlighting the newest work in independent cinema, will take place October 15 - 18 in the heart of downtown Nashville, Tennessee.
Impressively, the Rage Magazine recently designated IBFF one of the "50 Things We Loved in 2007." IBFF is rapidly making a name for itself on the festival circuit, hosting premieres, engaging panels and attracting noted filmmakers, VIP's and celebrities from around the globe.
CALL FOR FILMS
IBFF is now accepting submissions until July 31, 2008 and is dedicated to discovering emerging filmmakers and promoting their work. All official IBFF film selections receive tremendous exposure, reaching the festivals broad audience that attracts representatives from distribution companies and leading industry film executives. After screening at IBFF, a number of films have received international recognition and distribution offers.

SHIFT PAUSE PLAY
Recognizing the historical precedence of working with immediate communities to affect positive change (e.g. the civil rights movement) the Hiram Van Gordon Memorial Gallery invites Nashville-area artists, collectives and curators to submit curatorial proposals for summer exhibitions (June-July) that support existing programming missions. In keeping with the mission, the Hiram Van Gordon gallery encourages proposals from artists and curators with diverse backgrounds.
In 2009 the theme is SHIFT, all proposals must include a written statement detailing how the proposed exhibition supports the existing programming vision. Please read information provided on the TSU Gallery web site before you organize and exhibition:

Contest:
Artists bring posters to a meeting and those who attend the meeting vote for the design they like the most.
The chosen poster design will be printed and distributed/hung all over town as well as posted on the internet as the official poster for the show, including the Untitled website, MySpace, or any other promotional website or networking site, in numerous emails, press releases, show invites and wherever else Untitled artists would like to post the image to promote the show. A link will be added to your personal website or portfolio on the Untitled website and in promotional emails.
What to bring:
If you can't make the meeting but want to design a poster for consideration, have a friend bring it if possible.
Media:
digital, drawing, printmaking, photography, painting, etc. The design should leave room for important text & images about the event.
Size:
Posters can be full color or not, up to 11"x17”. Please keep in mind that we also print small postcard size fliers. The design will need to be scalable to a postcard size and readable or redesigned with text that is readable.

This logo is usually at the bottom or side of poster, along with any other sponsors' logos. Try to leave some room for small logos (if we have sponsors confirmed before printing).
OTHER THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW:
You can put these in whatever order, font and configuration you like.
Before printing, the final draft will be approved by PR chair and board members. Untitled reserves the right to request a designer to change the layout of the design or text style to effectively communicate the message of the poster to a viewer.
The final draft will need to be ready a week after it is chosen to be sent with the press release.
Artists are welcome and encouraged to design, print & distribute their own posters or promotional items for the show. Untitled will only pay for printing of the chosen design.

When many artists think "life drawing," they think of sterile rooms, bad lighting, and bored, silent, models with nary a hint of personality. Dr. Sketchy's Anti Art School is here to change all that. This month Dr Sketchy's Nashville will be "Animated In April" !!
That's right, this is an Anime themed sketching session in anticipation of The Middle Tennessee Anime Convention coming to Nashville later this month! Our model will be MTAC's very own beautiful and animated mascot "Con Kitty" posing for your artistic enjoyment!
You will have the chance to participate in contests such as best use of your favorite childhood cartoon character or most colorful Kimono drawn on the model and more!
We will be awarding prizes such as passes to MTAC, Goon Comics and Gift Certificates from I Dream of Weenie and The Groove.
