Terry Thacker, a Nashville-based artist and professor and chair of the fine arts department at Watkins College of Art, Design and Film, will lead this two-day intensive figure painting workshop. On Saturday, the program will begin with a discussion of the works on view in the Paint Made Flesh exhibition, with the focus on the way artists employ of a wide range of painterly effects to suggest the carnal properties and cultural significance of human flesh. Participants will then move to the Frist Center studios where the discussion will continue during a figure painting session with a nude model. On Sunday, participants will continue working in the studio with the model.


Cost: $50 members; $60 non-members. Cost includes all supplies and gallery admission. Participants may bring their own lunches or purchase them in the Frist Center’s café.

Participants will first tour the exhibition and discuss some of the ways artists use oil paint to depict the human body. After, they will move to the Frist Center studios where they will create their own figure paintings during a session with a clothed model.

If you have always wanted to try painting, but weren't sure if you could do it, this course is for you. Class is taught by Annie Tagg, who creates a supportive, gentle classroom approach that will bring out the artist in you. This introduction to oil painting will cover the basic facts of painting. Portrait Painting Class @ Battle Ground Academy: June 23-June 27

Portrait Painting Class

This one-week course will cover portrait painting working in a limited oil palette.

The first two days will concentrate on working with an oil wash technique to create a full tonal painting of the portrait.
This technique is a great transition from drawing to painting. The aim will be to create a finished study using this technique.
The last three days, utilizing a direct method of painting, we will be working with a limited palette of 4 colors of white, black, yellow ochre and cadmium red.

Basic supplies will be provided. Additional supplies may be purchased individually.

Members of the Donelson Senior Center fee is $50.00 and non-members fee is $60.00 for each ten-week class!

The opening reception for "Celebrations" is Friday, October 5, in conjunction with the center's up-coming Shoney's dinner theatre and play, "The Foreigner." Come and meet the artists during intermission and after the show.
