Picture This Creative Framing and Gallery is currently accepting submissions for the up coming gallery schedule for its Hermitage location as well as for Picture This on 5th in the downtown arcade gallery.
Please mail or email images to the gallery with a personal note telling us a little bit about who you are and what you do. If you mail them, they may be on a CD or photos no larger than 4 x 6. Please do not send slides. You may also email us your website in lieu of images. Emailed images should be in jpeg format. The images should show us the range of your work and subject matter. Include sizes and retail prices . Please also include your phone number and contact information! If you want us to mail your items back to you, please include a SASE. Please do not come into the gallery and expect to meet with someone without an appointment.
If we feel that your work is appropriate for our gallery, we will then contact you to discuss further. If you wish to have a signed agreement, please bring one with you when you bring your artwork or mail one if you are shipping your pieces.

FREE Workshops at Handmade and Bound Festival - Oct 1 2011
Handmade and Bound Nashville, a book arts festival for the entire family, will welcome dozens of vendors and feature a variety of workshops and lectures during the first edition of the free community celebration, set for Friday, Sept. 30–Saturday, Oct. 1, at Watkins College of Art, Design & Film.
Artists’ book, zine and comics authors, artisans, publishers, distributors and aficionados will buy, sell, trade and exhibit handmade and affordable publications and creations, as well as offer instruction and demos in miniature books, origami books, papermaking, printing, zine making, publishing, writing and bookbinding.
All events and activities are free and open to the public.
Sponsors for Handmade & Bound Nashville include Bongo Java, Jerry’s Artarama, Plaza Artist Materials, and Watkins Community Education department.
The festival launches Friday, Sept. 30, with a 6:30 p.m. reception celebrating the juried book arts and zine exhibition Encoded Structures: Interpreting the Story, on display in the Brownlee O. Currey, Jr. Gallery (through Oct. 28). Immediately following at 8:00 p.m. in the Watkins Theater is a screening of the award-winning 2004 documentary “$100 and a T-shirt,” a cultural analysis of the zine community directed by Joe Biel (51 min.).
In addition to the book arts marketplace on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Handmade & Bound will offer the following free activities for children and adults:
- Papermaking with Annie Herlocker, Watkins adjunct instructor – throughout the day
- Sidewalk mural drawing for kids of all ages with Watkins art students – throughout the day
- Proofpress printing with Cindy Marsh of the Goldsmith Press and Rare Type Collection at Austin Peay State University – throughout the day

(September 2011) -- Filmmakers and visual artists are invited to submit original works for "ARTlightenment" a visual art and film festival that will occur from Nov. 10-13 (Thursday-Sunday) at Celebrity Centre Nashville, 1130 8th Ave. S. near downtown Nashville. Artists may submit up to three original works for a jury fee of $10. Those selected will pay a $40 participation fee. "Best of Festival" and other awards will be presented to the winning filmmakers and artists. The festival will provide much-needed exposure for Middle Tennessee filmmakers and artists, and the theme of the event is “Elevate the Artist, Elevate the Culture.” Short films should be ten minutes or less. Acceptable art submissions include paintings, mixed-media, photographs and sculptures. All submissions should be suitable for general audiences. We will accept original: Paintings; Oil, Acrylic, Watercolor, etc. Drawings; Pencil, Charcoal, Ink, etc. Photography, Sculpture, Collage and Mixed Media. All work must
be original and completed within the last three years. Up to three submissions per person will be allowed. No works larger than 60”x 60”.
All work must be matted, framed and wired for hanging, with entry form and entry fee paid at time of submission. Paintings on canvas may be framed but is not
required.
Work will be judged on Concept, Skill Level, Execution, Originality and Creativity.
Material Content MUST BE appropriate for children and family viewing. The Gallery reserves the right to reject any work considered objectionable.
Artists may list prices and sell their work during this exhibit. All sales will pass through The Gallery, but the artwork must remain on exhibit until the end of the
exhibition in February, 2012. Artists will be notified of this date. We are a nonprofit and Will Not receive a commission on sales. The artist receives full amount paid.
You are not required to sell your work. Simply list NFS, (not for sale) on the entry form at time of submission at The Gallery.

In it's third year, the Arts Council is proud to present this evening series for 2011. Some of the most renowned local artists will share an up-close and personal glimpse into their lives and their work. The evening starts with a educational and interactive powerpoint presentation, followed by a question and answer period.
Creating art that invites the viewer to ponder and explore is Deborah’s primary goal. A passion for excellence, beauty, and things spiritual is reflected in paintings that also reflect her love of texture and color, light and mystery. Cohesive in its brilliant hues and high-relief texture the body of work is diverse in its images and palettes. Clients often describe Deborah’s work as bold in color yet peaceful in emotion; it is work that draws them into the painting. The work embodies the power of divine love as it interprets the vision within Deborah’s spirit.
Deborah Gall was created to live a life of artistic and prophetic expression. Her formal training came at Valparaiso University (Indiana) where she earned a fashion merchandising & business degree.
With a stirred heart, in1984, Deborah began to explore the useof fabrics & threads as a means of artistic expression. In 1986 she began professional sales of her art to students and friends. For the next 10 years she personally sold her work to a growing client list and in 1996 expanded to galleries, interior designers, & sales representatives. Internet marketing began in 1998.
Abide Studio, a retail studio/gallery in Franklin, TN, was established in 2004. It is the anchor of The Row @ The Factory, a community of creative working artists studios in the historic Factory at Franklin. Here she expanded her 20 years of creative expression to include mixed media and acrylic painting. In 2007 Abide Studio transitioned from a fiber art studio to acrylic painting and mixed media studio. In the “open air” environment Deborah shares each painting with viewers and clients.
In 2010, Deborah began to take her work out to an expanding list of locales throughout the Midwest and Southeastern United States through various art show venues.
Deborah’s custom-designed & commissioned art for corporate & private clients continues to grow. Her work hangs in private & public spaces across the US & internationally. As an experienced teacher, lecturer, and author in addition to being a successful artist, art studio landlord, and gallery owner, Deborah speaks on a diversity of subjects. She shares her work and her passion with audiences and students “wherever the path leads”.
In August, Deborah was invited to represent the Arts Council on the Main Stage at the County Fair. She painted 'Take Me to the Fair', which will be available for purchase in the near future. The painting is available for viewing in Building 12 of the Factory at Franklin, near Liberty Hall.
The program is funded in part by The Tennessee Arts Commission Arts Build Communities (ABC) Grant Program. This series has been developed to educate students in the arts as well as those in the community who have an
interest in the arts.
The lecture series is free and open to the public.
Light refreshments will be served.

Mental Health Cooperative Foundation invites artists to submit original artwork to MHCF’s Unmasking Mental Illness Art Benefit taking place Thursday, October 13 at Houston Station in Nashville. This juried event is open to emerging and established artists aged 18 and up. Artists may enter up to 10 works for consideration. Preference will be given to Tennessee artists.
Mental Health Cooperative Foundation presents a special evening with internationally-renowned and emerging artists showcasing their work in a gallery-style setting at former warehouse Houston Station, now a study in urban chic. Artists participating in the live auction include Kaaren Engel, Paul Harmon, Alan LeQuire, Myles McIntyre Maillie, Trevor Mikula, and Stacey Pierce-Nickle. Benefit patrons are invited to also enjoy a silent auction, Hors d’oerves prepared by local celebrity chef Jeremy Barlow, an artisan marketplace, open bar, and free valet.

Painting the Landscape in Modern Impressionism
with Lori Putnam
Sunday, August 28 from 1-4, and Monday, August 29 from 9-4
This intensive one and a half day workshop will focus on painting landscape paintings using photos and/or plein air studies as reference. Students will have the opportunity to observe and ask questions during the lecture/demonstration on Sunday afternoon. On Monday Lori will work with each student privately, devoting long stretches of focused/individualized instruction. Participants should expect to complete a large, studio work. Cost for this workshop is $175.
